How to Become an Effective War Strategist

This post’s intent is to further equip you as a warrior for Christ. You know who you are: you see yourself in the spiritual realm with your armor, your sword of truth, and a gloomy darkness that lingers ahead. You’re entering into a spiritual war between good and evil, and the battlefield is in your soul. Both sides want you, and your choices will ultimately decide the outcome. Once you choose Jesus, you win salvation.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:11-12

But the larger spiritual war is not over. In fact this is only the beginning; you must keep fighting the enemy.

Beloved, I come to you today as a warrior, one that bleeds and enjoys the satisfaction of serving a King who always wins the battle. How about you?

Throughout history, war strategy has been a prerequisite for a success and victory. The Lord has shown me six specific concepts that are crucial to know before engaging in battle (and as Christians, we must remember that the enemy tries to fight us daily).

1. You must understand why you are fighting and what is at stake.

2. You must know (but not meditate on) the tactics and character of your enemy in order to successfully defeat him.

3. You must know your individual weaknesses in order to both be on guard and to prayerfully seek God’s direction in these areas.

4. You must understand the power of your weapons and how to use them with effective precision.

5. You must know and understand Jesus Christ, including the tactics that He uses to win the battle (the word of God), as the Victor over all evil.

6. Lastly, you must know when to actively engage in the battle. There is a time and season for all things under heaven.

God constantly refers to both Keith and I as warriors. Perhaps this is why we are constantly drawn to the strategies of spiritual warfare – whether it’s intercessory prayer, anointing others with oil, spiritual mapping, planting scripture in the ground, claiming land for Christ, constant repentance of sin, or even just watching war movies. This is simply who we are. Honestly, I’ll choose Gladiator (one of my favorite movies) over a romantic comedy any day, which is very atypical for a woman (I think).

My hope is that this series will truly be an eye-opener for many of you. To achieve true victory, anything that is lurking around in the darkness of our own hearts must be brought to light. And for this series, the Lord has exhorted me to bring up very specific examples to foster deeper spiritual growth.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:13

Beware: your feathers may be ruffled, and you might be challenged how you are preparing to win this battle.
